ARTIST: COH PLAYS COSEY (COSY FANNI TUTTI)
TITLE:
LABEL: RASTER NOTON |

|
| DESCRIPTION: COH PLAYS COSEY CD is the first part of an ongoing collaborative project between Ivan Pavlov/COH and Cosey Fanni Tutti known for her solo performances and work with Chris Carter/CTI as well as for being a part of the radical cultural phenomena COUM Transmissions and Throbbing Gristle. Very much a statement rather than just a musical venture, COH PLAYS COSEY deals with concepts of honesty, trust, privacy, communication as well as (perception of) sexuality. The work represents a very close, if an intimate, contact between the two, where one (Ivan) was to interpret voice recordings made for him by the other (Cosey) - recordings made in intensely emotional states to establish a dialogue that extends beyond words, beyond intellect. A most private emotional diary of one (Cosey) pronounced to the general public by the other (Ivan ). The work has been kept hermetic by Ivan voluntarily restricting his choice of sound exclusively to that originating from the voice recordings, thus preserving the raw quality of his source material. In this explicit sonic adventure COH plays Cosey without inhibitions, without fear and without questioning the content submitted. COH plays Cosey like an actor - becoming her through his elaborate transformations of the voice. COH plays Cosey like a computer game - making his way though the infinite combinations and variety of human expression with ease and sense of fun. COH plays Cosey like in sex - fully controlling the process and manifesting the eventual outcome. COH PLAYS COSEY is a world of the embarrassingly unspoken made audible, COH PLAYS COSEY is the place where there is nothing left to hide. |

ARTIST: DIE WEISSE ROSE
TITLE: A Martyrium of White Roses
LABEL: COLD MEAT INDUSTRY |

|
| DESCRIPTION: It might seem strange that a band without a single release to its name has played concerts and festivals all over Europe. But anyone who has ever experienced Die Weisse Rose on stage knows why.
More than concerts, Die Weisse Rose’s performances are elaborate rituals, caleidoscopic (or even psychedelic) experiences. Elements such as uniforms, burning torches, snippets of old schlägers, segments from documentary films and philosophical proclamations are wowen together by orgies of live drums and electronic sounds.
Die Weisse strives towards what Wagner called ”Gesamtkunstwerke” – total works of art. When most other bands talk about Gesamtkunstwerke, it sounds pretentious. When Die Weisse Rose do it, it makes sense.
Die Weisse Rose also like to think of their songs as “audiodocumentaries”. Again, such a seemingly pretentious term makes sense, as Die Weisse Rose’s art is just as indebted to the History Channel as to Throbbing Gristle.
To bolster Die Weisse Rose’s lineup (which really consists only of the band’s mastermind, Thomas Bøjden) over the years the unit has recruited collaborators to its ranks that makes DWR smack of an Industrial supergroup. From Marco Deplano (Foresta di Ferro), Gerhard (Allerseelen), Kim Larsen (Of the Wand and the Moon) to name but a few.
In return, Thomas Bøjden has returned the favour and played with a who’s who of of the Industrial and Neofolk underground, from well-established outfits like Rome, Blood Axis and Foresta Di Ferro to up-and-coming Austrian neofolk band Klammheim.
Now, Die Weisse Rose are for the first time available on record. If you fear that we have another ”martial” clone band on our hands, prepare to be pleasantly surprised. The music is painstakingly crafted and orchestrated to perfection to include electronic elements, field recordings and real instruments, and its creative merits really stand out in an underground culture where bands of far lesser talents than Die Weisse Rose would release three albums in the time Die Weisse Rose have patiently worked on theirs. |

ARTIST: IELASI, GIUSEPPE
TITLE: Aix
LABEL: 12K |

|
| DESCRIPTION: Aix is the latest work from Italian artist Giuseppe Ielasi and the follow-up to 2007’s August (12k, 12k1044). WIth Aix we see Ielasi building his layered, atmospheric music around rhythmic grids. Most of the time these are quite irregular and the pulses are not neccessarily stable or clear. Where his previous work approached sound in a linear fashion Aix imposes a strong vertical development with the aforementioned grid and a production consisting of ons and offs, employing as much improvisation as Ielasi’s previous work, but in a different way.
Despite the self-imposed grid structure, Aix relies heavily on randomization. Not in the traditional sense of sound placement but instead of the spatialization of sounds, echoes, reverbs and the stereo image. As a result, Aix has an amazing sense and clarity of space as the small fragments of sound breathe and find their own place in the mix, thanks to Ielasi’s sublime skills as a mixer and engineer.
Ielasi relied heavily on numerous short samples and combining them in ways that fell into his groove; some found from others' recordings and many more recorded during the past year. We hear fragments of percussive (acoustic) objects, drums, piano, trumpet, guitar, and, of course, synthetic textures. Although there is a distinct rhythmic pulse to Aix, Ielasi manages to mold it into something wonderfully languid and warm... and strangely inviting. |

ARTIST: NURSE WITH WOUND/ JIM O'ROURKE
TITLE: Angry Eelectric Finger 1
LABEL: BETA LACTAM RING |

|
| DESCRIPTION: CD is unlimited in a full color digipack.
Thou had best be ready when the angry electric finger points to YOU! Fortunately, the 3 collaborators above stepped up to the challenged poking, resulting in each offering electric fingers of varying emotional levels ready to fist you in the ear. THUS SPAKE NURSE (& Xhol): The recipe began with our fearless leader, Steve Stapleton, cooking up some recordings & mixing in a few tablespoons of Xhol Caravan. He then sent this delicious sound casserole, one each, to Jim O'Rourke, Cyclobe & Irr.App.(Ext.) & asked that they bake said casseroles in their own sonic ovens. The 3 separate sound casseroles were then returned to the NWW kitchen where Chef Steve added just a dash of this & a pinch of that. Beta-lactam Ring now serves up these 3 piping hot dishes to you, the hungriest of hungry, hungry hippos.
The NWW/Jim O'Rourke duumvirate finger points to a brilliant & long overdue marriage. Their consummation has produced an ambient masterpiece; something of a hermaphroditic hybrid between Soliloquy For Lilith/Spiral Insana & Jim's previous Disengage/Tamper. Haunting, weird, dark & beautiful...just like you!
