NEW STUFF IN THE SOLEILMOON BUNKER
BETA LACTAM RING
09473 UW HYPOTHEEKADVIES Nature or Nuture CD 14.99 Ed. Of 400 numbered copies with full color insert each with an original hand drawing. Features members from former BlRR band Girlfriends and mastered by Erik Drost and Raymond Steeg (Legendary Pink Dots). According to the Explosive Ordinance Field Guide: “Uw Hypotheekadvies should be handled with great care as it is one of the most powerful EO’s, especially if detonated through speakers in the comfort of one’s own home.” As trios go, UH sound more like a thousand-tet. Imagine a heavily armoured Glenn Branca guitar army falling DOWN an UP escalator in such a way that they never reach the bottom and are forever tumbling and crashing. Now throw DNA down the same escalator and pour acid on that. UH don’t just rock; they ROCK. Like agates gone wild, their abstract explorations come delivered via sledgehammer and arrive on the plate as oddly conceived gemstones with insects trapped inside. It smells like the teen spirits of Naked City and Laddio Bolocko lurk underneath UH’s woodpile, but despite the improv flavour of UH’s pummeling, they skew away from jazz and lean in more towards prog than Zorn and Co. UH’s chaos fleshes form and even descends into subtle soundscapes in between the rat-a-tat blastpatter. A beautiful monstrosity of Nature and Nurture.
“Uw Hypotheekadvies (‘your mortgage advice’) is a noisy trio from Nijmegen, the Netherlands. There is a drummer, a bass player and a guitar player. The band evolved partly out of Girlfriends (which you can also buy at Beta-lactam Ring Records). Uw Hypotheekadvies aims to have a fresh, open approach towards making music. Influences are diverse like krautrock, no wave, Albert Ayler, bBfheart, dDeerhoof, ethnic field-recordings… The core of the music is interaction. Improvisation is a means but not necessarily an end. This has resulted in their first official release ‘Nature of Nurture’ referring to an old, for these three guys, still relevant question. After this rigorous work, they are occupied with making a new recording. Rumours say that this will turn out to be a pleasant piece of pop music.”
ANT-ZEN
09475 PROYECTO MIRAGE Turn It On CD 16.99 proyecto mirage was founded in 1990 by alicia h. willen and francisco planellas. they were initially influenced by the classic electro-pop of the early nineties (a sound which is still present in their side project bubble gum) but the duo was also attracted to industrial-music projects like s.p.k., whitehouse and - of course - esplendor geométrico. their first release saw the light of day after nine years, and their creative output since then has evolved into more complexity. the hard-floor oriented aggressiveness was enriched with electronic ingredients of all kinds - ranging from electro and electronic body music to techno, drum'n'bass, or even sounds similar to those of experimental 'bridging artists' like aphex twin and pan sonic. artists who share p.m.'s taste for alarming atmospheres, broken melodies and distorted rhythms.
'turn it on' is the conclusion of more then ten years of progression. lashing high-speed dance floor blasts ('cannibal party'), distorted eighties nostalgia (6 6 5, 9), straight breakbeat excursions ('welcome to life'), pounding four-to-the-floor industrial anthems ('salvation', a collaboration with italian experimental/folk mastermind spiritual front), disturbing experimental-core ('darker bex') - this album is a perfect amalgamation of all facets of the electronic assault culture - all of which is welded together to form a powerful statement that encompasses severity as well as humorous wickedness - nobody expects the spanish inquisition!
this is what they are, this is where the project is today - take it or leave it. always keep in mind: proyecto mirage is not just an illusion but a concrete reality!
09476 EXOCET Violation CD 16.99 rené klimaczewski a.k.a. klima is well-known for his collaborations with artists like converter and architect; he also made well-approved remixes (for displacer, for example) along with supporting young upcoming performers like demian, rdr a.k.a. raw state and denizchador on his label kellermusik, which started seven years ago.
by chance, on a trip to new york city in 2007, he became acquainted with dave kean - an inspirational character and a non-musician with a twisted mind, who left klima stunned with a multiplicity of ideas and extraordinary creative urges. kean became the muse for a new-born named exocet and this album is the first result of this artistic insemination.
violation holds a perfect balance between technoid complexity and industrial roughness, spliced into a single unit by accomplished usage of well-structured rhythmic work. fortifying bass pulses and diversified synth chords are enriched with scattered sounds and voices, generating powerful undertones of anxiety and threat. turning kean's guidelines into music, klima developed a one-of-a-kind style of digital sequences and human sentiment, defining an almost unreal post-industrial atmosphere. exocet is a crucible of sounds resonating with power and motion, completed with a pounding, merciless remix by u.s. electro-industrial legend manufactura - a truly fine conclusion to a landmark in the neutral zone between electronica and industrial.
HYMEN
09477 HECQ Night Falls CD 16.99 those who are familiar with ben lukas boysen's 5 year catalog of work will notice an important change while listening to this album. his former creations can be seen as explorations of different sound facets transforming boysen's feelings into music. it took time for this artist to subordinate the innumerable technical possibilities to become implements of his inner self, and he already began to walk this new path with '0000'. now, boysen qualifies 'night falls' as a turning point in hecq's personal and musical history, and also as a conclusion of what hecq stood for until now.
artistic expression of personal experiences are often difficult because these experiences often block the artist's creativity. in exceptional cases it is possible to do, one of these cases is 'night falls'. the predominant mood of the twelve tracks which were recorded as one continuous opus ranges from teariness and melancholy up to beauty and puissance, unleashed by discontent, the assurance to need a change, or even a stroke of fate.
never before has hecq's music implied such melodic and compositional richness. comparing the music on 'night falls' with romantic classical music seems imaginable; majestic strings interact with electronic soundscapes to bring sentiments into being. this is a manifestation of a person who is aware that changes happen, and that changes have to be made. as boysen says: the sixth hecq album will be much more different - this fifth one is the first of many new steps to follow.
BAZOOKA JOE
09478 RORSCHACH GARDEN, THE Transfer CD 16.99 They are back! Never before has a TRG album been as self-contained as 'Transfer'. Compared to their previous albums one will notice a significant wave influence and a turning towards contemporary songwriting; here, the Bielefeld based trio present a mixture between state-of-the-art electropop and instrumental tracks which are a perfect invitation to listen deeply and to 'lift-off' as well. The opener 'Move myself' already points out the direction: catchy melodies, P.Münch's unmistakable vocals, driving beats and moods perfectly balanced between joy and melancholy - once again trg present the perfect connection between vogue and sophistication - a trademark they are well-known for since 'State protection'. Contemporary, inspiring electronic songs, a guaranteed aural pleasure - which also explains the verve of the 'Japanese Friends' from Korg who dedicated an extra website to TRG. Mission accomplished - transfer complete.
RAUBBAU
09479 DEAF MACHINE Found Noises CD 16.99 -the groups in the nyköping/oxelösund region of sweden (megaptera, the protagonist, morthound) have been thoroughly documented in the past. however, one crucial missing link of this micro-scene has been overlooked, and not given the deserved recognition. until now, that is. mikael svensson, founding member of megaptera, also did his own project deaf machine but it vanished without leaving many traces behind. besides a couple of wildly obscure self-released tapes, the only other artifacts were contributions to seminal compilations such as "in the butcher's backyard" (cmi) and "death odors" (slaughter prod.). not content to rest on their laurels after the successful inaugural release by ordo rosarius equilibrio, the fresh german label raubbau has decided to highlight deaf machine with an ambitious re-release schedule that covers two separate cd albums. this first one, "found noises", contains one of the tapes, two tracks culled from compilations, and one previously unreleased track. the similarity with megaptera lies in the frequent use of voice samples from movies and news broadcasts. but whereas megaptera relies on a method of pounding machine rhythms, deaf machine opted for a subtler approach that is more based on textures and moods. the mix of muffled voice fragments, disjointed rhythm loops, and crude, bass-heavy synth-noises sound unlike anything else that came out of sweden at the time. a unique sound by a neglected artist that thankfully will no longer remain a secret within the small circles of cognoscenti.
DAFT
09480 ABSOLUTE BODY CONTROL Wind (Re)Wind CD 17.99 Influenced by bands from the German and UK electronic scene, Dirk Ivens (synths & voice) formed ABSOLUTE BODY CONTROL early 1980 , and was joined by Mark De Jonghe (synths) and Veerle De Schepper (backing vocals).
After releasing a track on the "Blitzpop 1" compilation and the release of their first 7" single "Is There An Exit?" (1981), wich became a local underground hit, Mark left the band. Eric Van Wonterghem, who was in fact a spectator at the first ABC concert, filled in the gap and became Dirk's new musical partner for years to come.
Before they decided to go on as a duo, ABC already appeared on several compilation albums and tapes worldwide. Soon ABC became on of the first Belgian electronic acts who proved to be succesfull on stage. In total ABC released 4 tapes and in 1984 Dirk became a member of "The Klinik", followed by Eric who left after the 2nd album to form Insekt.
In 1989 they released their last tape "Tracks" wich contained all ABC compilation contributions so far, but the band was put on non active well before. However, the public intrest was still there and resulted in the release of the first and only ABC cd so far, "Eat This" (1993) on the German VUZ records. Many people re-discovered the band and ABC releases became much sought after collector items. Still, it took them over 22 years to reform and play at festivals like Tinitus (Sweden) , BIM Fest (Belgium) and Wave Gotik Treffen (Germany). Meanwhile, their entire backcatalogue is available through Tarantulla (Lost/Found) and Vinyl On Demand (Tapes 81 - 89).
With the release of WIND[RE]WIND, wich contains newly recorded versions of their best tracks so far and the brandnew EP "NEVER SEEN", containing a remix by The Horrorist and a tour ........................ what else and what more could the ABC fans desire for?!
