When Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson passed away in 2010, he left behind several projects in different stages of completion. Apart from what was later released as X-TG’s “Desertshore” and the previous Infinite Fog re-release of “Amulet” by The Threshold HouseBoys Choir, a further seven tracks were compiled by people close to Sleazy in 2014 as “Time Machines II” and issued as a limited deluxe memory stick, in keeping with Sleazy’s ideas of ways to make music available in different and potentially more exciting, almost fetishistic formats (and not as the long-rumoured five-CD set, which, arguably, these tracks might have been the foundation for). That edition sold out almost immediately; it has since become a collector’s item, and a reissue has long been overdue.
Infinite Fog are delighted to be able to present these seven outstanding soundworks on vinyl and CD for the first time, to a new audience who may never even have heard (about) these pieces before.
Although the album title references the seminal 1998 drone masterpiece “Time Machines”, which was largely created by then-Coil member Drew McDowall, these tracks are completely different from both the original TM album and the other material Sleazy was working on at the time. They are more varied than the four original long drones and clearly more reminiscent of other Coil instrumental releases, e.g., “The Restitution of Decayed Intelligence” or maybe even sections of the Black Light District album. They are Christopherson’s personal take on “Musick that cures you of Time”. They are less melody-driven than his THBC output; in fact, they offer an exciting peek at what other music he was capable of envisioning and what direction his output might have taken, had he lived to create more.
Sleazy himself summed it up best: “The last few years have seen me becoming more interested in changing state (legally obviously) not as a route to intoxication, leading to loss of Awareness of the Present Moment, but as a way of opening doors to new visions, capabilities and knowledge.”
