Timeless Editions is proud to present GORBALS, the first volume in a new series dedicated to the photographic work of Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson. Raw, desolate and strangely intimate, these photographs capture a district and its inhabitants on the edge of disappearance. Some would find their way into the visual world of Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre; others would later resurface in Christopherson’s subsequent design work.
First seen in Peter Christopherson Photography (Timeless Editions, 2014), this extraordinary body of work is presented here for the first time in its own dedicated volume significantly expanded, reconsidered and finally given the space it deserves. The book also includes an unabridged interview by Nick Soulsby with Citizens Theatre directors Giles Havergal and Philip Prowse, shedding new light on this lesser-known chapter of Christopherson’s work. GORBALS opens a series looking at different sides of Christopherson’s photographic work, and how they connect to the visual language he would later develop.
