Rapoon: Arrangements, Drums, Instruments, Voices, Mixing
Pacific 231: Soundscapes, Rhythms, Digital Processing, Mastering
Il est d’usage d’appeler monstrueux l’accord inaccoutumé d’éléments dissonants, mais j’appelle monstrueux toute originale inépuisable beauté. Alfred Jarry cited by Claude Maillard-Chary
The first meeting of Robin Storey (Rapoon) and Pierre Jolivet (Pacific 231) took place back in 2007, when Old Europa Cafe released their split album “Palestine”, dedicated to the memory of Bryn Jones (Muslimgauze). This time they team-up for a fulltime real collaboration, presenting their unique musical visions. The album is quite different from both artists’ traditional styles, showing up the kind of synergetic effect embraced in sound. The long form, contemplative and mind expanding tracks are sequenced in time eliminating journey.
Limited edition of 500 copies in special packaging – custom made of metallic coated ruby color paper with white ink silkscreen print, assembled by hand. Comes with the set of 6 postcards with oxide textures photos and ancient style drawing over them.

“Palestine” was the first collaboration between Pierre Jolivet of Pacific 231 and Robin Storey of Rapoon. It was originally released as limited CD in 2007 by Old Europa Cafe and “Dedicated to the struggling Palestinian Nation and to the memory of Bryn Jones 1961-1999.” Zoharum is proud to present you a first time ever LP reissue of this important album, as well as a new edition on CD.
Given that “Palestine” is dedicated to Muslimgauze and Israeli-Palestinian conflict it’s easy to predict what you’ll find here. Each side of the record presents the artists’ take on middle eastern rhythm and sound. Side A is raw. For over 20 minutes Pierre Jolivet focuses on subtle processing over hypnotic distorted drum loops. On side B Robin Storey takes us on a long, somewhat IDM-ish trip following what seems to be Muezzin call. The CD contains three bonus tracks that were originally included on the limited Old Europa Cafe version of the album and Pacific’s “el-Arish” business card CDr.
Remastered by Robin Storey.
The remastered Zoharum LP edition of 300 copies comes on red translucent 180g vinyl with CD insert. (Please note that all of the LP jackets have a small dent in the corner — with most of them it’s the lower right corner — because of inadequate protection during shipping)
The remastered Zoharum CD edition of 200 copies comes in a 6 panel ecopack
The OEC CD edition from 2007 is presented in a special screen printed Protex-Box / Lever Kick-out box with a black coloured playing side of the CD.
About Soleilmoon
Soleilmoon began in 1987 as a cassette label, operating from the back of a tiny record shop in Portland, Oregon, called The Ooze. The first releases were by Smegma, Muslimgauze, Coil, and Nocturnal Emissions. In 1991 the shop was sold and Soleilmoon because a full-time label.
The artists presented by Soleilmoon cover many musical territories, but all share in common an appreciation of the possibilities available through the creative use of technology. Much of the music is dark and electronic, but there are also examples of ethnic influences, ambient soundscapes, and even harsh experimental noise pieces.
Soleilmoon releases are distributed around the world. See the Local Stores page for a list of stores and distributors. Contact us if you want to open a wholesale account.
