The English musician Bryn Jones, who preferred to call himself the band Muslimgauze during his artistic lifetime, was one of the most original and productive artists of the post-industrial scene. He has released an incredible amount of music in just 16 years. According to current estimates, there are at least 200 releases with a total of more than 1900 songs in circulation.

The Extreme Years 1990-1994 is a compilation of all Muslimgauze music, released on the Australian label Extreme Music between 1990 and 1994. According to many critics and fans, this was a uniue and very special period in Bryn’s work, during which he grew from an amateur musician into an experienced sound sculptor. Sadly, Bryn passed away in early 1999, aged just 38 years.

The boxset includes 9 vinyls in expanded 2LP versions of the 4 Extreme albums with bonus songs, as well as the Infidel LP with remixes done by electronic music genious David Thrussell (Snog, Soma, Black Lung).
The Infidel LP will be exclusively available with the box set edition, where the 4 double albums will be available also as separate releases, beeing published one after the other during the first half of 2024, starting with Intifaxa 2LP.

The original tracks were perfectly remastered for this first time ever vinyl release and the new masters received high praise from the Extreme Music owner Roger Richards.
New sleeve designs were created by Oleg Galay, who is famous for his artworks for many Muslimgauze reissues.

The boxset contains the albums:

Intifaxa 2LP (AKT16)
United States of Islam 2LP (AKT17)
Zul’m 2LP (AKT18)
Citadel 2LP (AKT19)
Infidel LP (AKT20) – not available outside the box

as well as a LP sized 8 page booklet, a pro DJ slipmat and a hand numbered certificate card, all housed in a highest quality, heavy wooden box. All album covers are made from extra heavy cardboard with deluxe spot UV finish and inside print.

The release date for the completed US edition of The Extreme Years 1990-1994 boxset with all vinyls included is February 1, 2024

The separate double LPs will be released on these dates:

MUSLIMGAUZE – Lo-Fi India Abuse

Reissue of album originally released in 1999 by BSI Records. Remastered, with new artwork.

Promotional blurb from BSI press release:
Lo-if India Abuse is the result of collaboration between BSI Records’ Systemwide and the late Bryn Jones, a.k.a. Muslimgauze. It is a collection of beautiful and brutal originals and “re-mixes”, a seriously varied assortment of tracks that focus dub, Mid-East percussion, and radioactive ambience and noise through the singular Muslimgauze filter. Some of the tracks are recognizable reconstructs of songs from Systemwide’s “Sirius” CD, most are pure Muslimgauze; the two flow and collide effortlessly. This collection represents some of Bryn Jones’ last work. It may give us a sense of some of the territory that might have been explored had Bryn been able to continue. It is also one of only a handful of Muslimgauze releases issued by a label other than Staalplaat or Soleilmoon. Like the earlier “Systemwide meets Muslimgauze at the City of the Dead,” it represents the beginning of what promised to be a great relationship between Muslimgauze and BSI. Lo-if India Abuse is a crucial work and a necessary listen for all who have followed the journey of the formidable and singular artist known as Muslimgauze.

MUSLIMGAUZE – Salaam Alekum, Bastard (cassette)

March 5, 2020: The novel coronavirus was rapidly spreading around the globe when an email arrived at Soleilmoon from Terry at Muslimgauze.info in Canada. He was forwarding me a message from a fellow named Zahir, inquiring about the possibility of licensing Muslimgauze’s “Hamas Arc” for release as a limited edition cassette tape in Malaysia. I wrote back to Zahir the same day and proposed that he choose an album released by Soleilmoon, as the album he was interested was released by a different record label. I gave him a list of possible candidates, from which he chose “Salaam Alekum, Bastard”. The only complicating factor was that this album had just been licensed to Kvitnu for release on CD and double LP, but Dmytro at Kvitnu graciously agreed to the proposal, asking only that the tape not be released until later in 2020 so as to leave the field clear for his editions of the album.
Time passed, the coronavirus upended everyone’s lives, and it took more than two years for Zahir’s dream to become a reality. But he was determined and persistent, and in late August, 2022, a bright yellow and red DHL box full of cassette tapes was delivered to Soleilmoon. Manufactured in an edition of 100 copies, with professionally printed inserts and tapes in sealed cases, this is first officially licensed Muslimgauze album to be released in Malaysia. The artwork is based on the 1995 Soleilmoon release, and was made using the original digital art files.

MUSLIMGAUZE – Veiled Sisters

BOTH VINYL EDITIONS, (BLACK, TRANSPARENT GOLD) ARE ON SALE DUE TO DENTED JACKETS. PLEASE SEE GALLERY PHOTO BEFORE YOU BUY.

It’s by some strange inversion that since his untimely death in 1999 Bryn Jones’ Muslimgauze project has become evermore enigmatic as his publicly available recordings have become evermore vast. The Mancunian artist’s sudden passing at the age of 37 prematurely resolved a body of work that remains as experimental as it is diffuse, with an informal archive that was left spread between favoured labels and confidantes. And though this monadic project never abided by genre specifications, it all feels as if it is taking the critical pulses of its time and rendering them into something other than the sum of its obscure compulsions. Jones’ double album ‘Veiled Sisters’ from 1993 is no exception, and it persists as a magnificent outlier in his singular and bewildering discography.

Originally released by the label Soleilmoon, an early and lifelong supporter of Jones’ work along with Staalplaat, the album is a notable example of the uniquely recombinant fragility and fervour of Jones’ work. This 3LP edition marks the album’s first appearance on vinyl. Like much of the Muslimgauze catalogue, ‘Veiled Sisters’ is dedicated to the Palestine Liberation Organization, with its two halves—Sister One and Sister Two—calling on the history and conflicts of the modern Islamic world through opaque titles and snatches of musical oration.

Forgoing the raucous timbre and abrasion that Jones could occasionally employ, this album balances a medley of shrill instrumental bursts with a complex patterning of ambient atmospheres. ‘Veiled Sisters’ moves with a hypnotic gait across its extended runtime with a dynamic ensemble of electronics grounded in a pulsing yet evasive combination of low-slung kicks and dub-soaked bass. The hissy wash of drums, both played and machined, decorate a restless patina all over, and the cacophony of samples send impressions scattershot into Jones’ idiosyncratic yet readymade psychedelia. With a quiet intensity that is not often captured this succinctly in the Muslimgauze catalogue, this new edition of ‘Veiled Sisters’ is a reminder of the haunting wonder that Jones was capable of manifesting.

MUSLIMGAUZE VS CELTARABIA

“In the winter of 1996 (Saturday 17th February 1996) World Music band Celtarabia played a sell-out gig at Slaithwaite Civic Hall in West Yorkshire with support from Psychedelic DJ Simon Scott of Tandoori Space Records in Leeds and were joined on stage by Bryn Jones who joined them in their set playing a Darbuka with his painted red hands signifying his support for the Palestinian people. Reggae Producer John Bolloten (The Rootsman) was also there and a great time was had by all on stage and afterwards.
At the end of the gig Quentin Budworth gave Bryn Jones and John Bolloten a copy of the band’s first CD ‘The Lost Music of Celtarabia’ with some very interesting results a series of collaborations leading to the recording of The Rootsman Meets Celtarabia ‘Union of Souls’ album with John and the arrival of a mysterious DAT tape in a plain brown envelope sent directly to John Bolloten at the Third Eye Studio of Celtarabia tracks remixed by Bryn Jones directly from the album – extremely gritty and fierce the recordings are direct from Bryn’s Studio and strangely beautiful. Reflecting the bitter reality of life in Palestine far removed from the dreamy orientalism of the original Celtarabia Tracks.
The tracks are all remixes of “The Lost Music of Celtarabia” tracks.”
